THE YOGA POSE FOR EVERYONE

Let's get something straight here.

Yoga is not about tightening your ass, it's about getting your head out of it! Sure, your ass takes on a life of its own after practicing for a while, but that's just an added benefit to the BRAIN SPACE Yoga gives you.

Thankfully, the MOST important Yoga Asana (posture) there is, does not require the flexibility of your cousin Debbie from Jersey. It's called Savasana (shah-VAHS-uh-nuh), which is Sanskrit for 'Corpse Pose' and even though people like to refer to it as their 'nap' to top off their Yoga practice, it is much more than a dessert pose. Savasana also:

  • Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression.

  • Relaxes the body.

  • Reduces headache, fatigue, and insomnia.

  • Helps to lower blood pressure.

HOW TO DO SAVASANA

  • Lie on your back with your legs straight and arms at your sides. Rest your hands about six inches away from your body with your palms up. Let your feet drop open to the side. Close your eyes. Cover up with a blanket if it makes you feel secure.

  • Breathe naturally.

  • Working from the soles of your feet up to the crown of your head, consciously release every body part, organ, and cell.

  • Relax your face. Let your eyes drop deep into their sockets. Invite peace and silence into your mind, body, and soul.

  • Stay in Savasana for five minutes for every 30 minutes of your practice or if you went straight to Savasana - hang out for a good 10 minutes.

  • When you're ready to get up, slowly move your fingers and toes and then roll over to your right side, using your arms to lift yourself to a seated pose.

NOW GO ON WITH YOUR CALM ASS.
